About us

Allens is a leading international law firm with a proud 200-year heritage of shaping the future for our clients, our people and the communities in which we work. Together with our alliance partner Linklaters, our global network spans 40 offices in 28 countries.

We have recently been ranked the top legal graduate employer by both the Australian Association of Graduate Employers and GradAustralia, and recognised as the top clerkship employer by the AFR and GradConnection. Last year, we were named an elite "band one" firm in 15 practice areas in Australia by Chambers Asia Pacific and awarded Law Firm of the Year (> 500 employees) at the Australasian Law Awards for the second year running.

This is a time of unprecedented change. At Allens, we're ready. With a legacy that spans 200 years, we've pioneered significant change. It's a part of who we are.

Our people go further to support our clients, using sharp commercial insight and creativity to enrich long‑standing relationships and build new ones. We go further for each other and for our community. We're people you want to work with – generous with our time and ready to help. No matter what the future holds, we're in it together.

With us, you'll be one step ahead. Great change is here. Are you ready?

Dive In with Allens

As a Dive-In participant, you'll have the opportunity to meet our partners and lawyers, gain insight into who we are and the work we do, hear practical tips for preparing for work in the early stages of your career, learn about our clerkships and life as a graduate at Allens, and so much more!

Upon successful completion of our Dive In program, you'll join our Dive In alumni community, and will be invited back to the firm in your penultimate year ahead of applying for clerkships. As a Dive-In alumnus, you'll receive specific guidance on navigating your way through the recruitment process and tips and tricks to set you up for success. You'll also have the opportunity to reconnect with the people you met during the Dive-In program and continue to build your network.

Our program is split across three half-days:

  • Day 1 – All locations: Thursday, 12 May (9am – 1pm local time);

I have done a variety of legal work whilst here. This has included being directly involved in contractual negotiations (and corresponding amendments), drafting and finalising semi-contractual documents (notices, letters, annexures etc.), providing legal advices and some non-legal work such as business development.

Pros and cons of working at Allens

Pros

  • Great training, large teams, larger matters, great exposure to the market early in career.

  • The people are very down to earth and fun but incredibly intelligent at the same time.

  • The work is also diverse and intellectually stimulating.

  • Allens invests a lot of time and resources into training its junior lawyers... providing 'on the job' training.

  • A supportive work environment, which supports individuals to take responsibility for their own careers.

Cons

    • Pay is lower than comparable firms.

    • The hours can be long during busy periods and once you're off the Legal Services Award.

    • Hierarchy.

    • The unsteady workflow.

    • The standard of work and reputation of the firm is very high which can feel crushing and overwhelming.
