Good managers so far
Graduate, Melbourne - 09 Nov 2023
Some are and some are not, so a nice balance will be great.
Graduate, Canberra - 07 Nov 2023
I have had two different managers from two different divisions in the organisation, and they have both been exceptional mentor figures, who genuinely want to see you grow and thrive. They both have different approaches, one is very structured and planned in their teaching, whereas the other gives you a lot of autonomy to make mistake and learn that way - however they both provide constructive feedback and always give recognition when you do something.

Yes they're good

I personally really like my direct manager and have found her supportive and flexible of commitments outside of work. Some managers and national team seem de skilled and out of touch with customer facing work. These opportunities should be broadened and rotated so other perspectives can be offered to leadership and so that skills remain current.

My current manager is extremely knowledgeable, experienced and approachable. She is supportive and encourages me to grow. She gives both feedback and praise. Overall, I have had very good managers in my current role.
Graduate, Adelaide - 30 Oct 2023
the graduate team are completely incompetent, although the managers I have had in legal have been exceptional
Graduate, Canberra - 30 Oct 2023

Graduate, Sydney - 30 Oct 2023
Managers are absolutely amazing for me, and I could not ask for better. Karina, Naomi and Whitney are all lovely women and I'd love to see them get more pay for what they do. Communication has been clear and well explained where I need improvement, or when I'm going well.

Extremely accessible. The Senior executives make an effort to talk to the average staff members and have regular forum sessions. Many make good mentors, there's a mentor culture present.
Graduate, Brisbane - 30 Oct 2023
My first line manager was horrible and discriminated against me. The managers I have had since have been wonderful.
Graduate, Adelaide - 30 Oct 2023
Excellent mentors/team leaders who lead by example and are not condescending.
Graduate, Brisbane - 30 Oct 2023
I don't feel very connected to them although I believe they do a decent job in their roles.

I'm in Melbourne. My line manager is in Canberra and the Manager above that is in Adelaide. Both are very accessible, both through MS Teams and email.

The managers I have worked under (not to be confused with the "Executives"/SES, of course) have been lovely, supportive people. I have experience informal and structure mentoring from different managers, as well as different styles of communication, from formal emails to informal chats and Teams messages. All of my managers have been quick to praise, but are also kind and empathetic when discussing mistakes or concerns.

My first manager was not very present in office or online. IOn my four months of working under this manager I saw her twice in person or onscreen, and our conversations were rarely longer than 5 minutes inclusive of check-ins, my requesting support, performance discussions etc. I felt very unsupported and unmotivated. My deployment manager was very supportive and helfpul and took genuine interest in my success and wellbeing. My current manager is very supportive and invested in my wellbeing and career. We get along well and he keeps me well informed about everything our team does. I am learning a lot from him and the leadership in our team/section. I know I can go to him for career advice and guidance beyond my everyday job which is a great feeling! As a part of the graduate program I have been assigned an EL/SES mentor who has been very supportive and helpful. I catch up with him monthly/bi-monthly for general check-ins, career advice and the like.

My managers have been very supportive. Always open for a chat and to help me. I have a senior executive as a mentor who has been amazing.
Graduate, Other (Please specify) - Dubbo - 30 Oct 2023
They've been great at encouraging me and recognizing my commitment to the agency but I feel I've had little opportunity to showcase my skills and ability to learn
Graduate, Adelaide - 30 Oct 2023
Mixed bag. Senior management are in a bubble.
Graduate, Perth - 30 Oct 2023
Very dependent on what team/role you are in. Some are a lot more hands on, others are more on a need to know basis.
