Training & Personal Development at John Holland

7.9
7.9 rating for Training, based on 46 reviews
Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
The informal training has been good. I have had a series of managers invested in my development who have helped me and explained things slowly. Mandatory training is also available where necessary. It would be beneficial to have some formalised training and development component linked to the Graduate Program. Currently, it is like being a Site Engineer or a Coordinator with one or two site events/tours added each year.
Graduate, Sydney - 24 Sep 2024
Minimal training during onboarding - would have liked to have had a day to buddy and oversee what colleagues do to gain an understanding of the full process. Extensive learning modules which cover entire facades of the business are consistent but are not specific to the department I am allocated to.

Online training, more to do with internal systems and procedures that aren't very useful anywhere else. Most of my learning has come from the site team, Forman & leading hands
Graduate, Sunshine Cosst - 08 Sep 2022
Have some pre-course online training help you more understand the company and the job they do.
Graduate, Auckland - 05 Sep 2022
I have received one formal training session, and have participated in a number of informal trainings/learning modules. JHG also runs regular TEK talk/webinars which help broaden my level of knowledge in areas across the business. Workplace is also a great place to find information about other projects and what the business is up to. A lot of the skills that I use on a daily basis were picked up on the job. Overall good access to learning opportunities.
Graduate, Melbourne - 31 Aug 2022
The company has a range of compulsory training as well as optional learning opportunities and modules. I have learned how to create dashboards and model data in Power BI. As well as improving the art of negotiation and effective communication of feedback.

The company puts a lot of time and effort into training their employees and it has been evident in my time here.

The business offers training but could be more often.
Midlevel, Melbourne - 12 Mar 2019
Training for individual varies, some have received more training than others. Consistency could be improved
Graduate, Sydney - 12 Mar 2019
Minimal training.
Graduate, Melbourne - 12 Mar 2019
Just do the basic site training that engineers need. Graduates get a couple of days away to do some training (really good), just wish there was more regular training.
Graduate, Melbourne - 12 Mar 2019
The graduate program exposes graduates to a range of different projects and areas of the business. I have learned skills such as scheduling using Primavera 6, systems assurance and environmental studies.

I have completed many training programs since starting work, such as, working at heights, warden training, confined space entry, etc.

Training is available, however training on new digital systems and optimised ways of working is not a focus like it should be.
