Please provide further information on diversity with respect to women, ethnic minorities and LGBT. Please comment on issues such as recruitment, retention, promotion, child care, maternity leave, etc.
This comes up in meetings and announcements to ensure everyone is across these areas and everyone is supportive of it

We have a good culture that includes all people of different culture orientation and cater to the needs of them, we also have a good repertoire of interaction

I think the community is quite diverse and has a range of people with different backgrounds and perspectives.

I believe it is getting better as the company strives to provide a more diverse and inclusive environment, in what is a difficult area to recruit as the stem are a male dominated section. I believe we are getting better across the board through having events including wear it purple in which support for the lgbtiqa+ community are shown. Also providing relevant training to enable growth of employees to increase their understanding.

This company has a great focus on diversity and inclusion to all of its employees. Often in recruiting decisions, it is considered however, generally people that are a best fit for the role are successful.

nova systems has a strategy for gender diversity. The only issue that nova systems struggles with is retention.

In house culture is exceptional. Company frequently is open about reviews and surveys and strives to do better. More improvement can always be made. Overall, very good.

It has been evident that Nova is trying to increase their commitment to diversity and steps are being made in that direction.

Nova places high importance when it comes to D&I. While I can't comment specifically on details as I'm not across them, I do know Nova has numerous groups and positions in place to continually develop and maintain our D&I both internally and externally.

Have a diversity and inclusion manager, a lot higher proportion of women engineers at the company (mostly young) than the industry average. Ethnically diverse is a slight challenge as you must be eligible for a security clearance, however there are many people from all sorts of backgrounds. I only know of a few LGBTIQA+ members - there doesn't seem to be any issues that I've noticed. Generally the industry is old white males, this does lead to some inappropriate comments sometimes - however Nova is a very good company when it comes to this and that is not often.

Make an active effort to spread awareness of issues, and organise events.

The people around me are very diverse. I have heard there were retention issues last year but so far in my cohort everyone is enjoying working here.

One of the four key values of the company is community which the company prides itself on committing to. Around the company is a wide variety of people of varying backgrounds, ethnicity, gender and more. Being Australian owned, the company recognises the traditional custodians on the lands in which business is conducted on.

I have seen almost nothing showcasing the commitment to diversity in my time here. Small events and maybe one talk but it is disappointing.

Have not seen any differences between the way different genders/sexual identities have been treated in this company.

I cannot speak to this area in detail, but from what I have seen there is great diversity at the company compared with others. I am not sure of the recruitment, retention, promotion, child care and maternity policies, but the company is generally fair and equitable.

The profession has less women in general. Ethnic minorities are there but not a whole lot, however I cannot comment on varied range of experiences that people have had. This is because it can be an individual experience. There is a lot work on engaging the LGBTIQA+ community. Retention is similar to most industries, people move for a range of reasons etc.

They say they are committed but the chief people person also said that they "believe in quotas for diversity" which, as a non-white Australian is quite an uncomfortable thing to hear.
Graduate, Melbourne - 08 Nov 2023
Yes, they are committed.

Gender diversity is really high compared to other client sites that Ive worked on and heard of. Lots of conversation recently and effort in other areas of diversity, however still some more work we could be doing.

What does your company do to attract applicants from less privileged backgrounds?
I am unsure that Nova Systems specifically makes sure to include potential candidates from less privileged backgrounds through their recruitment program. There are initiatives in the works to engage more on a university level.
Graduate, Adelaide - 06 Dec 2019
Not sure
