Culture at NSW Government

8.4
8.4 rating for Culture, based on 31 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
High employee turnover. Little on-boarding or ongoing support provided to new starters. Little information on team expectations or how to succeed in the role. Sink or swim environment. Socialising encouraged both at work and during lunch/after hours/on weekends.

Culture in my agency is fantastic. Very good hours for a work-life balance, and an appreciation that you have to be flexible around people's other commitments outside work. Juniors and seniors work together regularly to produce projects, and hierarchy so far has never been imposed as a way to force you to remain in the office. Although the work itself can be isolating, the team are so lovely that everyone goes out of their way to host social events every now and again so that you feel engaged.

My team is all very kind a caring towards one another. Everyone I have met so far is respectful of boundaries, specifically after hours and contacting people. My team are all very supportive of eachother and accommodating to individual needs.

There is a hybrid working arrangement allowing team members to work from the office or work remotely. My team has a morning catch-up meeting every day to discuss work tasks and this often incorporates non-work related conversations. This allows team members to get to know each other and socialise. I feel that the work I complete is appreciated and all team members are very approachable.

Transparent communication, everyone is open to collaboration and hearing opinions, very friendly and open

The culture in the NSW Government is excellent, while there is a hierarchy it feels like you are equal and all working as one team. Socialising outside of work is also common and I am good friends with my colleagues.

Company's culture in the office is very friendly, relaxed and open minded. Everyone is very cooperative. Not much socialising amongst colleagues. May be difficult due to age gap/

The culture at work in the NSW government is great, very professional and accommodating of all diversity. They are flexible and always put their people first. But it isn't ever fun, which is very important to me - there's no joking around at work and we rarely meet outside of work hours.

Everyone has been incredibly welcoming to me for my entire time here. Teams are small enough that you get to know each other quite well. As many people work from home, there isn't a lot of socialising after hours, but that isn't an issue for me.

The teamwork is very collaborative within my team. There is a lot of understanding about limiting overworking yourself and when you need to take a break to make sure that you do so.

Office culture is fractured, with some sections being open, loud, and active, while others host just a few who work better in the quiet. There is some tension between managers, executives, etc.

I feel very supported to start working a little earlier in the morning so I can enjoy more of my afternoon. I feel that my time outside of work is respected and I am not contacted outside of my work hours. I do not feel pressured to complete work with restrictive deadlines as the focus is on quality work. I have contacted people in my team and extended team that I have asked for support and have received that support with ease that I have appreciated. I enjoy that a meeting is not always needed to complete work, as people can work together but alone (I.e., I share a document and receive feedback in the comments).

The culture in the office is very good, everyone is very friendly. Out of work the team goes their own separate ways.

There is decent work-life balance, and good flexibility around hours. The hierarchy does add administrative burden and not all processes surrounding the requirements of working within the hierarchy are clear. There is strong cooperation and teamwork, however, there are few socialising opportunities due to many staff working from home.

Extremely supportive company culture (especially in a graduate role). My manager has encouraged exploring as much as possible, and I am getting a diverse range of experiences from it. While there are levels in the structure, and respect for those senior up, as my organisation is quite small, the social distance between my role and others is rather small (comparatively). This helps a lot with learning on working in the NSW government.

The team has a really good work and social culture but there is a disconnect between the team and the Director.

Very friendly atmosphere in the workplace. I do not live close to work and have not taken advantage of socialising activities. They are available and I have been invited. Management seems to listen to staff and I know I can ask any team members for help.

In office culture is great, however not a massive out of office social life. Management and Culture is positive and not overbearing, very helpful when needed.

There is a hierarchy but the people towards the top seem to be pretty relaxed and treat everyone nicely. In my experience company culture has only been during office hours, I think most employees have children at home so there are no (at least that I know of) social activities. I have however been to social activities with other graduates outside of work hours which was nice.

Great culture in office. Very respectful and kind. Good teamwork and collaboration. Structured and hierarchical, but executives happy to talk to grads directly. Allowed to work in the office or from home. Have regular team meetings and social events. Most events are in office hours, but after hours drinks every so often.
