Management at NSW Government

Manager prefers not to participate in the requirements of the graduate program, leaving grads without instruction or support to do well in the role. Feels like I have been set up to fail in my first rotation.

Management so far has been really approachable, however it as they do not often leave their offices and you have to go to them it can create a dynamic that you're interrupting their work. Internal communications can sometimes be inconsistent, but the team is small enough that any issues get cleared up quickly and often face-to-face.

My manger is very lovely and a wonderful mentor. She takes the time to check up on me and always makes time if I reach out for help. She provides great guidance or points me in a direction for help when I need.

My managers are very approachable and invested in my personal development. Work of team members, including myself, have been praised in work meetings.

My direct manager is amazing, extremely accessible and very focused on my development and opportunities. We have monthly performance meeting to go over how I am progressing towards my PDP goals and always recognises my work both in private and in front of my Director and other team members

From my experience and what I have seen, I think they do pretty well!

Managers very good at interacting and providing support. I have weekly 1-1 meeting with my manager, but also talk to them nearly every day. There is a formal assessment process though your performance and development plan. There is a formal mentoring program within the Graduate program, so you have a mentor outside of your team, and you get an executive sponsor (someone at executive level which you get to meet up with throughout the program and learn from).

Yes. My manager has been a reliable and crucial source of knowledge and support. Upper management is approachable, though they can be time-poor!

My first manager was horrible. I bring my concerns to another manager and she was changed immediately. My current manager is very good and supportive. She values and recognises my ability and efforts.
