As a William Buck Vacationer, you will experience first-hand how your university studies translate into a career path. Over 5+ weeks in Jan-Feb 2024, our program will give you a taste what you can expect as a professional within an accounting and advisory firm. Our vacationers get involved in real-world work and projects, learn as much as possible and leave our program excited about the future.

What does the William Buck Vacationer Program offer?

  • The first chance at being offered a Graduate position starting the following year. This year we made job offers to 90% of our vacationers.

What do I need to be successful?

  • Eagerness to learn as much as possible and annoy our managers with endless questions.
  • A genuine interest in a career within accounting and advisory.
  • A positive outlook and a willingness to make the most out of each day.
  • Be studying a relevant degree for your chosen division as listed below.
  • Be in your final couple of years of study.

What opportunities are available?

Opportunities are available in the following divisions:

Business Advisory

Our Business Advisory accountants provide a wide range of compliance and advisory services. Business Advisory includes strategic business advice, financial statements, tax returns, budgeting and cash flow forecasting and tax planning.

  • Requires studying a degree in Commerce or Business with a major in Accounting.

Audit & Assurance

Our Auditors conduct internal and external audits for our clients. Audit includes risk management, financial reporting, IT assurance and independence services.

  • Requires studying a degree in Commerce or Business with a major in Accounting.

Tax Services

Our Tax specialists are the go-to division for all complex tax queries. Tax Services includes corporate and international tax, ATO audits, transactional and remuneration tax. 

  • Requires studying a degree in Commerce or Business with a major in Accounting. A double degree in Commerce/Law will be highly regarded.

R&D Tax Incentives and Grants

Our R&D specialists assist clients with identifying and accessing government and industry funding opportunities, including the R&D Tax Incentive program and major grant funding programs such as the Export Market Development Grant.

  • Requires studying a double degree in Commerce and STEM.

Wealth Advisory

Our Wealth Advisory division offers a holistic approach to personal wealth. Wealth Advisory includes estate and trust administration, wealth creation, investment strategies and succession planning.

  • Requires studying a degree in Commerce or Business with a major in Financial Planning.

Pros and cons of working at William Buck

Pros

  • The best thing about working at William Buck is the other people you work with. Everybody in the office greets you with a smile and genuinely wants to get to know you.

  • The workplace culture of William Buck has been extremely positive in my short time with the firm. Everyone is positive, upbeat, and happy to help or engage where appropriate.

  • "I believe that in terms of learning, William Buck is hard to match, and I am very satisfied with what I have been taught and trained.

  • My managers are very accessible, friendly and great at teaching. As dictated by the nature our work processes, we engage heavily with our managers, enabling more opportunities for learning and development as well as general bonding. Feedback is generally constructive with the ultimate aim of teaching instead of reprimanding.

  • here is a clear progression map from when you start... merit is rewarded and that the effort employees put into their work do not go unrecognized or unnoticed.

Cons

    • Hours can be long and sometimes it’s hard to disconnect, but that is more of an industry thing rather than specific to WB.

    • The only real problem I have encountered so far is tech issues.

    • Being a grad means no flexibility to work from home until after the probation period.

    • After-hours work is limited only to the busy season (though recently I have stayed back more than usual to get projects out to clients).

    • There does sometimes feel as though there is a lack of processes and frameworks in place, but it also gives room for initiative and freedom.
