Akuna Capital is an innovative trading firm with a strong focus on collaboration, cutting-edge technology, data-driven solutions and automation. They specialise in providing liquidity as an options market maker – meaning they are committed to providing competitive quotes that we are willing to both buy and sell. To do this successfully they design and implement their own low-latency technologies, trading strategies and mathematical models. At Akuna, they have a flat structure, where the best idea wins.
Their Founding Partners, including our CEO Andrew Killion, first conceptualised Akuna in their hometown of Sydney. They opened our first office in 2011 in Chicago, the heart of the derivatives & options industry. Akuna then expanded to Sydney in 2018 to be the centre of our Asian trading operations. They are currently trading HK, Korea, cryptocurrencies and US night markets and are excited about expansions into all the major Asian exchanges. They also have offices in Shanghai and Boston.
At Akuna, they believe that the people are the centre of everything they do. Their Sydney office has a start-up feel with around 200 people, which means you really get to know the team! They are expanding rapidly and looking for the best talent to join them on this journey. If you enjoy being part of smart, driven teams with real challenges to solve- this could be the place for you!
They like to keep it simple. The steps in your recruitment process are:
1. Think about what roles you’d be best suited for:
Everyone at Akuna is a great team player, communicator and is entrepreneurial- these are the skills they look for in our new hires too!
2. Apply online - answer a few questions and submit your resume to a role that interests you and is most suited towards your skill set.
3. Online testing - dependent on the role you apply for, you will be required to take a math-based test and/or coding challenge.
4. Technical Interview - successful applicants will then move on to a technical interview conducted over zoom with a team member from Akuna.
5. Final Round - successful applicants will progress to a series of final round interviews with a few members of the team, conducted over zoom or in-person.
Full-time compensation packages starting at $140K AUD + attractive bonus package.
They have an in-house barista (so free coffee). They run social poker competitions, office happy hours, have a fully stacked breakfast and snack room, host social events, go on company trips, have social clubs, and offer great training with their Akuna University.
Trader Training: You will begin with our 7-week Akuna Training Program, with lectures, projects, mock trading games and job shadowing. They will teach you all about market making, financial acumen, Options Greeks, risk management, their systems and of course - lots more. You will then rotate between desks within options, delta 1, currency and wholesale trader areas to find your best fit.
Developers & Quants: They always have new projects and look to bring on their juniors all throughout the year. As a junior, they will be paired with a mentor or will rotate between teams to work together on their first project, and they offer extensive training opportunities to learn about market making, their systems, and financial theories such as Options Greeks and Black Scholes methods.
