Please describe the interview process and assessments.
The onboarding process could be improved.
Graduate, Perth - 01 Aug 2024
My interview and assessment process was carried out prior to covid, so the process has changed somewhat since. Currently, my understanding of the current interview and assessment process is as follows: current tertiary students and recent graduates may apply for roles as summer interns. A subset of applicants will be given the opportunity to attend an in-office assessment center, which includes an interview. Following this, successful applicants will be offered a contracted position as an intern/vacation student for twelve weeks between November and February. Following the internship program, depending on business need and intern suitability, some interns may be offered a graduate position, usually commencing about a year after the completion of their internship.

Chevron mainly hires graduates through their performance in preceding internships. Can be daunting and create competition as interns try to get the limited positions.
Graduate, Perth - 15 Jul 2024
My interview was held significantly before the onboarding date due to the path I took into the business. The interview tends to take place before graduate work as that is the path to graduate hiring.
Graduate, Perth - 11 Jul 2024
Interview was from my internship as they hired direct from that program (no grad interviews), good questions showing more around train of thought and broad thinking as opposed to just needing to know deep technical knowledge from the get go as that can be taught over time.
Graduate, Perth - 05 Jul 2024
Once candidates are shortlisted, they are invited to assessment centers where they are judged based on group activities as well as individual interviews - many factors are taken into consideration.
Graduate, Perth - 02 Jul 2024
The process of being hired on the Graduate Program means you have to have completed a round of cadetship or internship from the prior year to receive a graduate offer. The process was simple, however, there was limited communication from the completion of my cadetship rotation and the offer for a graduate position. This left me unsure if I could be expecting an offer.

i liked the targeted questions checking on my competence mixed with personal attributes and behaviors
Experienced, Perth - 18 Oct 2022
The hiring is all done through the summer internship program. To get into the internship program, there was an online application submission (open to current students at university and recent graduates), and then an assessment centre

Graduate, Perth - 25 Sep 2021
A couple of technical questions were asked but majority were behavioral relating to the company's values. Don't remember the specifics of the questions.

Do you have any specific tips and advice for candidates applying to your company? How would you recommend they best prepare?
Be yourself.
Graduate, Perth - 01 Aug 2024
Make sure you demonstrate kindness and show support for other applicants in any group activities you participate in. Additionally, remember that you're not expected to know all the answers to things you're asked - if you don't know an answer, share your thoughts on how you would go about finding out relevant information, and what considerations might be important to it. The interviewers want to see a willingness to learn and problem-solve, they're not expecting you to know everything.
Graduate, Perth - 16 Jul 2024
Learn about oil and gas businesses and familiarise yourself with Chevron and their compeditors assets.
Graduate, Perth - 15 Jul 2024
Actively engage in the Vacation student program, this will be a win-win where you can test the company out as they do likewise. Its a 12 week program that gives work from the business, so I'd say take on the work and do your best to embrace the activity. Want to prepare, polish your technical and interpersonal skills, the latter being a key area that I found I needed to polish when taking on Vacation work!
Graduate, Perth - 11 Jul 2024
Make sure you look up what the company does prior to coming in for an interview.
Graduate, Perth - 05 Jul 2024
Read up on the company beforehand since being knowledgeable on the assets we operate ahead of time and our companies values leaves a good impression on dedication + interest.
Graduate, Perth - 02 Jul 2024
Learn about the company, their values and their projects.
Graduate, Perth - 19 Oct 2022
know what you want clearly understand what you can learn from the company but also what you can give back
Experienced, Perth - 18 Oct 2022
Look up standard interview questions and write practice answers to them. Look up at least some basic things about the oil and gas industry and a few things about the company specifically. Practice answering the interview questions (ideally to another person) to get comfortable in that environment. If you have an assessment center component (I didn't, but I think they do now), focus on helping the people around you do well as well as yourself - it will be noticed and it will be something they're looking for. If not, highlight times when you've helped other people succeed as well as times when you've succeeded.
Graduate, Perth - 14 Oct 2022
Research Chevron Australia to get a good understanding of projects operating in Australia and the company values.
Graduate, Perth - 12 Oct 2022
No specific advice.
Graduate, Perth - 12 Oct 2022
Research Chevron's base business and operations (what we do). Practice, practice, practice.
Graduate, Perth - 12 Oct 2022
Chevron highly values soft skills, you need to be a good communicator and passionate about what you do.
Graduate, Peth - 21 Oct 2021
Balance being professional and friendly. Research the company and understand the core values.
Graduate, Perth - 19 Oct 2021
Don't be deterred if you don't have the highest grades - as long as you are above the threshold to apply your grades will not be considered anywhere near as much as how you speak and how personable you are. Remember as an intern / grad you are NOT expected to be a technical wiz, all anyone wants is someone who is easy to get on with, eager to learn and doesn't come with a big ego.
Graduate, Perth - 19 Oct 2021
Gain experience from extra curricular activities (not necessarily work) so you have lots of examples to draw from in your cover letter and interview. Time and practice your interview presentation and try and make it unique. The interviews will have heard lots, so make it memorable!
Graduate, Perth - 29 Sep 2021
Put a lot of effort into both your Cover letter and Resume. Include all your experiences, it doesn't have to relate to the work you applied for. Assessors like diversity in your portfolio as it allows them to see that you are seasoned and can think outside the box.
Graduate, PErth - 28 Sep 2021
Stay relaxed, be yourself.
Graduate, Perth - 25 Sep 2021
research what the company does, where it operates, and corporate mentality (look at the annual report etc.). These are useful pointers for any job interview.
