What does a Risk Consultant do?

Also known as an insurance broker, youโ€™ll help individuals and businesses best protect their business. Itโ€™s all about building a relationship with your client, understanding their business, and providing risk advice. Youโ€™ll work with clients across a range of industries and sizes, with opportunities to specialise in specific areas. Some common areas of specialisation include construction, allied health professionals, transport, and Not-For-Profit. Working as an insurance broker, no day is ever the same! 

What does your day to day look like?

  • Consulting with clients: Youโ€™ll connect with your clients to understand their needs and provide tailored insurance advice.
  • Policy research and recommendations: Youโ€™ll identify and recommend policies from various insurers to fit clientsโ€™ unique needs.
  • Negotiation and advocacy: Youโ€™ll negotiate competitive rates for your clients and assist them with their claims process, ensuring a fair outcome.
  • Networking and relationship building: Youโ€™ll attend industry events such as underwriting expos to network and stay up to date with market developments.
  • Continuous learning: Youโ€™ll participate in training sessions and pursue further studies, such as Tier 1 Insurance Broking through ANZIIF.

Weโ€™re looking for someone who has:

  • Degree qualification or higher within the past 3 years from Business, Finance, Commerce, or Actuarial disciplines but if you have studied something else, still apply!
  • AUS/NZ Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident
  • The ability to connect with clients and understand their needs.
  • Confidence advocating for clients and the ability to navigate fast-paced environments.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop industry expertise.

Register claims and draft reports for adjusters. Also do a bit of admin work such as issuing invoices and keep the claim up to date in the system.

Pros

  • The People - Everyone is super nice. Being Independent - I get left alone to do my work and not helicoptered the whole day.

  • Good working culture and everyone is willing to help out when I have trouble.

  • The people at my company are super friendly and the culture is good. I like the fish tank in the office

  • Career progression, work-life balance.

  • Great people, great clients, always room to move forward

Cons

    • Pay is a little low.

    • Irregular workload - can get really hectic at times but then I have no work at other times.

    • Traffic can sometimes be annoying. But my company is hardly to blame for that!

    • I can think of nothing negative.

    • When I am away from the fish tank. :(
