Overview

Susquehanna is looking for students in their final year and recent graduates who are interested in using decision science to solve problems in the world around them to join our 2026 Graduate Quantitative Trader program.

Susquehanna is one of the worldโ€™s largest market makers, with a unique approach to trading, technology, and research. While this background puts us at the top of our game, what really makes us successful is our quantitative approach to decision making and the collaboration between our employees.

As a Quantitative Trader in our Sydney office, you will learn the quantitative and game-theoretical approach that Susquehanna uses to make decisions in the financial markets. You will work closely with experienced quantitative traders, who share a passion for mathematics, problem solving, and technology, both on the trading desk and in the classroom. You will learn about decision science, game theory, and capital markets in the classroom and in mock trading sessions to reinforce what you are learning on the desk. You will also play poker and other strategy games to further develop your decision-making skills.

Susquehannaโ€™s Quantitative Trader program is designed to help you develop into an autonomous decision maker, capable of creating profitable trading strategies, assessing risk, and appropriately allocating firm capital. At the end of the program, youโ€™ll be invited to attend a 10-week training class in our Philadelphia office, where youโ€™ll learn directly from one of our founding partners, as well as senior traders who have decades of experience in the industry.

What we're looking for

  • Numerate + Logical: When it comes to decision making, you use clear and sound reasoning. Youโ€™re rational and like to use numbers and data to come up with sensible solutions.
  • Problem Solvers: You enjoy solving puzzles and love it when you discover a solution to a difficult problem.
  • Communicators: You enjoy building relationships with those you work closely with, and you enjoy sharing ideas, expressing your thoughts, and listening to the views of others.
  • Curious: Youโ€™re excited by a career in trading. You donโ€™t need to have studied finance (weโ€™ll teach you what you need to know).
  • Soon-to-be or Recent Grad: Confirmed plan to graduate by December 2025 with a degree in any discipline (most typically STEM), Distinction average WAM, from an Australian or New Zealand University

What we offer:

  • Classroom Education: Susquehannaโ€™s in-house education programme is widely recognised as being the best in the industry. You will attend regular seminars to learn about options and the decision-making strategies that our traders employ.
  • Decision making: using game theory, decision science, poker, and other strategy games. Itโ€™s true what youโ€™ve heard!
  • Mock Trading: practice what you have learnt
  • Culture: Our culture allows employees of every level to thrive. We are not your typical trading firm โ€“ the environment is casual, collaborative and we focus on continuous development, no matter how long youโ€™ve been in Susquehanna.
  • Perks: Based in Sydney, on the top two floors of Tower 1 in Barangaroo, our space provides beautiful harbor views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. To name a few of our favourite perks, our employees make the most of our free onsite catering, game room, and social events (company-wide parties, poker tournaments, and Friday night socials).

Our Interview Process:

  1. Application
  2. Online Assessment (Quantitative and problem-solving skills)
  3. Phone Interviews (Behavioural and technical)
  4. Office Interview (Trader interview, trade floor visit, and office tour)
  5. Job Offer

My responsibility is to help our traders gain an advantage in the markets in a few ways, such as recommending trades on breaking news, determining how information is disseminated, and providing valuation and analysis on situations in the markets. I try to understand what factors are driving price movements and ensure that our opinions are reflected in products that we trade.

Pros and cons of working at Susquehanna International Group

Pros

  • I was given the opportunity to dive headfirst into the complex trading systems and start adding new functionality.

  • There is less micro-management compared to other companies, and there is a lot of room to grow and learn from more senior co-workers.

  • Everyday we're provided with breakfast snacks, multiple lunch options, and a cornucopia of pick-me-up treats.

  • Best training program any grad can receive ever. The effort and resources which go into you are unrivaled.

  • Compensation is very competitive, reviewed frequently, and portion is tied to the success of the business as a whole.

Cons

    • Working at Susquehanna can be very challenging and sometimes quite tiring.

    • Environment is more fast-paced and high-pressure which isn't for everyone.

    • The hours for researchers and traders are not very flexible as they are tied to market hours.

    • Pretty much no ๏ฌ‚uidity or choice in being able to move around desks

    • Generally, you take on more responsibility and coverage as you gain more experience at the ๏ฌrm. SIG doesn't have a structured title process like other ๏ฌnancial ๏ฌrms (e.g. if you start as a trader or equity analyst, your role stays the same)
