Summer Vacation Programme

Our Summer Vacation Programme is a 12-week paid placement over the summer university break. It’s an opportunity to take a test drive before you graduate and see what your future with us could look like. On completion, you will be automatically considered for a graduate role, putting you ahead of the graduate pack.

You will be paid for your work and get a taste of what it's like to work on projects like offshore wind farms or city-shaping precincts.

You will access curated learning content helping equip you with valuable skills to set you apart in your career.

Our curated learning workshops will help you:

  • Develop your career by building your professional presence and employability skills.
  • Learn strategies to manage challenges in the workplace.
  • Unlock your potential using a growth mindset.
  • Think towards your future by exploring career pathways and direction.

Recruitment Process

1. Submit online application

You will need to submit an online application during our recruitment period. We will ask you to share some of your details, including a copy of your resume and most recent academic transcript. In this application, you will be invited to select your top preferences from our available roles.

2. Initial selection

You’ll be assessed against various criteria to determine your suitability and eligibility to the programme. We will review your area of study, interests and prior experience (both academic and professional).  We also look to assess your cultural fit and understand your teamwork and communication skills.

3. Interviews

Held in person at your local Arup office or online, selected candidates will meet with professionals from their selected discipline. This will provide us with the opportunity to get to know one another better.

4. Offer

Successful candidates will receive a verbal offer, followed by a written letter of offer sent via email.

5. Acceptance

Accepted offers of employment will be signed and returned to us, allowing us to commence the on boarding process and get ready to welcome our new graduates.

We welcome and encourage candidates from all backgrounds as well as people living with disability and provide workplace adjustments.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • The meaningful project work that I get to be a part of. I feel engaged and motivated in my role and enjoy coming to work. The team (and office more broadly) are friendly and supportive of my development.
  • You get to work flexible hours, meaning that you can start and finish when it suits you (obviously as long as you work a minimum of 7.5 hours a day, deliver the work, and attend the meetings you're supposed to).
  • Ample time and resources are given for training. Interesting projects. Great team, technically and socially.
  • The culture supports my aim of having good work-life balance. There are many social events during and after business hours.
  • The company has a very strong environmental stance and will not work on projects they feel could compromise their environmental commitments.
  • Sometimes the expectation to complete work I am unfamiliar with can be cumbersome.
  • The workload can become intense, especially with deadlines on large projects.
  • Some expectations are not laid out clearly. For example, what can be booked on your timesheet or when your time would be volunteered. - Internal tooling is only partially mature.
  • Business fluctuates working in a consulting firm which can lead to periods with a lack of project work. Feeling the pressure to be a productive employee with high billability, particularly during these periods of low workflow.
  • The culture varies between teams, which means that work and support can be variable.
