For 40 years Cochlear has been bringing people all over the globe into the world of sound. Professor Graeme Clark, an ear surgeon, saw firsthand the isolation and frustration that comes from living in a world of silence as his father struggled with hearing difficulties.
On holiday in 1977, inspired by a shell and a blade of grass, Graeme realised there was a safe way to insert electrodes into the inner ear. It was his determination to help others that realised the first implantable solution reconnecting his patient Rod Saunders to hearing and bringing music back into his life.
Today, Cochlear is the global leader in implantable hearing solutions, connecting hundreds of thousands of people all over the world to a full life of hearing. When others said that it couldn’t be done, Graeme Clark collaborated to create a breakthrough solution; when there was a rush to scale, he put people first; and when there was hesitation, he persisted, inspiring others to follow. His pioneering spirit to improve people’s lives, which started all those years ago, keeps driving us forward today.
We help people hear and be heard. We empower people to connect with others and live a full life. We help transform the way people understand and treat hearing loss. We innovate and bring to market a range of implantable hearing solutions that deliver a lifetime of hearing outcomes.
Despite being an ASX50 company, Cochlear stays true to its mission and remains driven to empower, transform, and innovate all over the world in the science of hearing loss. Our employees are experts in the field and are some of the smartest people you will meet and work with. Alongside this, our operations are global with direct operations in Europe, US and Canada, Latin and South America, the Middle East and Africa, and the Asia Pacific. Our products are also available in more than 180+ countries.
All of this global presence is headquartered right here in Sydney, and that means you will have the opportunity to work with diverse individuals and stakeholders from all over the world and have the chance to make a difference in our operations everywhere.
Our work isn’t only about bringing our current solutions to as many people as we can, but it is also about continuously re-investing into our people and the future solutions and possibilities. In 2021 we invested $195 million into research and development, with more than $2 billion invested in the past 40+ years.
Cochlear's Summer Student Program places students into a stream for the entire period of time. Your performance as an intern will determine your suitability as a permanent, graduate employee.
This year, our Summer Student Program involves more teams than ever before and we were therefore looking for the best of the best students.
At this stage, we do not intend to complete Technical assessments. However, this may change due to the competitive nature of our candidates.
Graduates form a critical backbone to the success of Cochlear as an organisation. Our employees respect interns and graduates as important people to our mission, as a result, we invest heavily into our students and junior talent especially if you stay with us as graduate engineers.
We don’t just say this – we can prove it.
Some of the students who started with us in the past are now important members of Cochlear. Some of our Senior, and Principal Engineers started as students, as well as managers of various key teams and projects. Even some of our directors and global managers started as students over 10 years ago – and they’ve stayed with us the whole time.
Your manager could have been an intern themselves.
Our remuneration for interns is competitive with the market and streamlined across all business units involved
